Location:15 km from Mall Road | Entry: Rs 50

Kempty Falls is the most visited place in Mussoorie and honestly, it deserves every bit of that attention. The waterfall drops nearly 40 feet into a cold turquoise pool surrounded by green mountains. I reached at 8 AM before the crowds arrived and the experience was completely different from what you see in tourist photos: quieter, more raw, and genuinely beautiful.

• Pro Tip: Go early in the morning, climb down to the pool, and sit near the water. That is where the real Kempty experience happens.

Location: Kempty Falls Road, directly on the main road leading to the falls, approximately 14 km from Mall Road. 

Rating: 3.4/5

Basic and clean with decent valley views from the rooms. The location is the biggest advantage here. You are closer to the falls than almost any other hotel in Mussoorie. Staff are helpful and the rooms are well maintained for the price. Nothing fancy but does the job well. Rooms from Rs 800 to Rs 1,500 per night.

The Kempty Retreat 

Location: Kempty Road, Mussoorie, about 13 km from the town center near the Kempty Falls area. 

Rating: 3.8/5

 A noticeable step up from the basic options on this road. The rooms are spacious, bathrooms are attached and clean, and the small garden is a pleasant place to sit in the evening. Guests consistently praise the staff for being friendly and giving good local tips. Rooms from Rs 1,800 to Rs 3,000 per night.

Cloud 9 Resort Kempty 

Location: Kempty Falls Road, Mussoorie, set slightly above the road with mountain-facing rooms and open valley views.

 Rating: 4.1/5

 The best stay option near Kempty Falls. Rooms are comfortable, well-furnished, and the mountain views from the balcony are genuinely impressive. The breakfast served here with the valley stretched out in front of you is one of those simple travel moments you remember for a long time. Good service and well-kept property. Rooms from Rs 2,500 to Rs 4,500 per night.

2. Gun Hill

Location:1.5 km from Mall Road | Ropeway: Rs 250 return

Gun Hill is the second highest point in Mussoorie and one of the most rewarding places to visit. On a clear day you can see Bandarpunch, Gangotri, and Srikantha peaks stretching across the horizon. I went at sunrise and had the entire peak to myself for almost an hour standing above the clouds watching the Himalayas turn golden is something I will not forget.

• Pro Tip: Come between October and June for the clearest mountain views. Take the ropeway up but walk the forest trail back down. It saves money and the path is beautiful.

Location: The Mall Road, Mussoorie, right in the center of town just a few minutes walk from the Gun Hill ropeway base station.

 Rating: 3.5/5 

One of the better budget options on Mall Road. The rooms are clean, the location is hard to beat for sightseeing, and the staff are straightforward and helpful. Do not expect luxury but for a traveler who just needs a comfortable base to explore from, Broadway delivers well. Rooms from Rs 1,200 to Rs 2,200 per night.

Padmini Nivas

 Location: The Mall Road, Mussoorie, situated close to the Gun Hill ropeway with easy walking access to the main market.

 Rating: 4.2/5 

One of the most charming heritage guesthouses in Mussoorie. The building has genuine colonial character, the rooms are tastefully done, and the hosts are among the warmest you will meet anywhere in town. Guests repeatedly highlight the personal attention and local knowledge the owners share. 3. Mall Road and Camel's Back Road

Location: Situated in the center of Mussoorie, Uttarakhand

These two roads together give you the full Mussoorie experience. Mall Road is the busy, buzzing center of town  shops, street food, woolens, Tibetan jewelry, and the best people-watching in any hill station. Camel's Back Road running just beside it is the complete opposite, a peaceful 3 km walking trail through forest with stunning valley views and almost no crowds.

• Pro Tip: Do Mall Road in the evening for energy and shopping. Wake up early and do Camel's Back Road at 6 AM for the silence and mist. Both feel like two completely different towns.

Location: The Mall Road, Mussoorie, one of the oldest properties on the main stretch with direct access to all central attractions. 

Rating: 3.3/5 

No frills and proud of it. Hotel Himalaya is one of the oldest budget properties on Mall Road and it has been serving travelers well for decades. The rooms are basic but clean, the location is unbeatable, and the prices are among the most honest in Mussoorie. If you are the kind of traveler who is out sightseeing all day and just needs a decent room to come back to, this works perfectly. Rooms from Rs 900 to Rs 1,800 per night.

Kasmanda Palace Hotel 

Location: The Mall Road, Mussoorie, set in a restored 19th century royal property right on the main promenade.

Fortune Resort Grace 

Location: Camel's Back Road, Mussoorie, positioned directly on the walking trail with unobstructed valley and mountain views.

Rating: 4.5/5 

Among the best mid-to-premium hotels in Mussoorie for overall value. The location on Camel's Back Road means you wake up to valley views that most hotels in town cannot offer. Rooms are spacious and well-furnished, service is professional and warm, and the dining options are good. The property is well-maintained and the overall experience is consistently high. 4. Lal Tibba

Location: 6 km from Mall Road | Entry: Free | Telescope: Rs 30

Lal Tibba is the highest point in Mussoorie at 2,275 meters and one of the most underrated places to visit. It is quieter than Gun Hill, the views are sharper, and the road to get there passes through Landour, a colonial cantonment area that feels like a completely different world. The telescope here lets you see Kedarnath, Badrinath, and Nanda Devi up close on clear days.

• Pro Tip: Stop at Landour Bakehouse on the way it has been running since 1845 and serves the best banana bread and filter coffee in any hill station. Budget Rs 200 to Rs 300 and take your time there.

 Location: Landour, Mussoorie, situated in the heart of the Landour cantonment area close to Char Dukan and the main Landour walking loop. 

Rating: 4.2/5 

One of the most interesting places to stay in Mussoorie. The building itself is a beautifully restored heritage structure and the hostel has been set up with genuine care and taste. Dorm beds are clean and comfortable, private rooms are cozy and well-appointed, and the common areas have a warm community atmosphere. The staff are knowledgeable about Landour and Mussoorie in a way that adds real value to your trip. Dorms from Rs 600, private rooms from Rs 1,500 per night.

Char Dukan Guesthouse 

Location: Landour Cantonment, Mussoorie, right next to the iconic Char Dukan tea stalls that have been a gathering point for Landour locals and visitors for generations.

Waking up here means stepping outside to the smell of freshly baked bread and the sound of quiet Landour mornings, an experience completely different from staying on noisy Mall Road. An 1838 heritage hotel sits at the edge, surrounded entirely by dense oak and pine forest leading into Benog Wildlife Sanctuary. No crowds, no noise, just trees and mountain air.

Pro Tip: Go early in the morning with a camera. The fog moving through the forest at dawn is one of the most beautiful things you will see in Mussoorie. Carry a jacket it is noticeably colder here than the rest of town.

• October to November is personally my favourite time. Crisp air, crystal clear mountain views, fewer tourists, and lower hotel rates. Highly recommended.

• December to February is cold and magical. Snowfall is possible in January and February. Hotels are at their cheapest and the town feels wonderfully quiet and intimate.

Famous Food of Mussoorie You Must Try

• Aloo Ke Gutke: Mussoorie's signature street food. Crispy dry-cooked mountain potatoes with local spices. Available at every dhaba in Landour Bazaar.

• Kafuli: A slow-cooked Garhwali green curry made from spinach and fenugreek, best eaten with mandua ki roti. Pure comfort food on a cold evening.

• Tibetan Momos and Thukpa: The Happy Valley Tibetan community makes some of the best momos in North India. A plate costs Rs 60 to Rs 100. Thukpa noodle soup on a cold night is absolutely perfect.

• Bal Mithai: The famous Uttarakhand sweet made from roasted khoya with sugar balls. Buy a box to take home the best edible souvenir from the hills.

• Travel from Muzaffarnagar under Rs 500 Take a shared cab to Dehradun (Rs 200 to Rs 350) then a shared taxi to Mussoorie (Rs 60 to Rs 100). Total under Rs 500 per person one way.

• Book on weekdays Weekend hotel rates are sometimes double the weekday price. Traveling Monday to Thursday saves 30 to 50% easily.
